Since being admitted as a solicitor in 2002 Melissa has worked almost exclusively in commercial disputes, litigation and building/construction matters. In that almost 20 years of practice Melissa has gained a tremendous amount of experience in all types of business, commercial, property and construction disputes.
As well as practising in disputes and litigious matters, Melissa has a depth of experience in an array of quasi litigious matters such as bankruptcy and insolvency cases, financial complaints, resumptions and body corporate disputes.
Melissa has represented a wide range of clients ranging from small businesses to large banks, insurance companies and local governments. Her experience includes representing clients in both State and Federal courts, as well tribunals such as QCAT and industry specific bodies such as the Financial Ombudsman Service (now AFCA) and building adjudications.
Melissa’s many years of practice have given her expertise in a wide array of commercial and property disputes. But in more recent years her special interest has been on building and construction matters.
As an experienced building and construction litigator, Melissa has acted for many different builders, sub-contractors, developers and home owners including proceedings against the QBCC and other government bodies. This experience includes acting for both Claimants and Respondents in Adjudication processes under the Building and Construction Industry Payments Act 2004 and the Building Industry Fairness (Security of Payments) Act 2017.
From years of experience Melissa is aware that the longer a legal dispute runs, the higher the costs will usually be, which in turn often results in clients receiving a lesser net amount in their pocket. As a result, Melissa’s focus is always on looking for the quickest and most cost effective solution for her clients.
Many years of experience have given Melissa the ability to weigh up options and identify what is the best strategy to achieve a prompt, cost effective outcome, rather than a protracted and expensive dispute.
